Note – This post is my own views and opinions
I’ve posted a number of articles in the past few months about the IT industry. Experiences, tips, suggestions, ideas etc
What I’ve learned in these months is one needs to keep improving and levelling up. I see in this new AI age there is resistance and fear from news outlets and social media.
My take away from this AI discussion is, if I’m replaceable, what part of my job isn’t replaceable? Is there a human part which only you can do, only you can exploit? If so then how can you be replaceable? I wish I got a $1 each time I heard that employee jobs will be replaced by AI. AI will not replace employee’s but add an extra string to one’s bow.
The question one should be asking is, “what am’I doing now with AI, have I even logged into ChatGPT or Gemini, have I actually written my first prompt, have I got the inputs and outputs right, did the AI model give me the answer I desired, if not why not?”
How does one get caught up in the hype and euphoria of AI but never actually used it in the first place. It’s like saying you don’t want to drive a car because you’ll crash the car….. (sure there are people out there with a low IQ and drive in a stupid way and shouldn’t be driving in the first place). But saying you’re job is going to be replaced because of AI yet you haven’t even tried what the tool can do. Well imo that’s the unintelligent way to think.
I use AI at work, boy has it made me more efficient in all aspects to the way I work. I’ve noticed my critical thinking and questioning skills (key word critical thinking) improve, mapping out my apps in such a way which gives me more perspective on what apps I’m supporting and more.
I don’t fear this AI movement. I only fear that people will not use it because they feel they don’t have the competencies to use it. Which is not true. My suggestion to anyone fearing AI is to just go ahead and try it. Ask yourself, what questions did you have when you we’re little but you weren’t able to find the answer to. Do you think AI might have that answer now? Try writing a prompt and seeing what the output returns. Have you also tried maybe searching other communities (I.e. your social circles) and seen what other’s are saying?
The one fear I do have about this AI movement is the amount of $$$ and blank cheques being written to support this growth? I’m flabbergasted at the amount of $$$ and deals being done you wonder if all of this AI is just a bubble. At the moment we’re all using these AI models for free to some extent. I haven’t seen any ad’s yet pop up while using ChatGPT or Gemini. One has to wonder how these tech firms are going to financially support this initiative. Guess time will tell.

- You have skills no AI model will replace
- Make sure to identify and exploit it, make sure your employer knows about these skills
